Galveston from East Beach

Official seal of Galveston, Texas

Galveston Island is approximately 50 miles Southeast of Houston; Texas’s largest city. The small, romantic island is 32 miles long and two and a half miles wide at its widest point.  The island offers 32 miles of relaxing beaches, great restaurants, superb downtown shopping, numerous antique stores and art galleries, super entertainment and one of the largest and well-preserved concentrations of Victorian architecture in the country.

Galveston is one of the most popular vacation spots in Texas, visitors and tourists from around the world have been flocking to Galveston  to take advantage of this extraordinary Texas travel destination for decades.

The Island has much to offer these pleasure seekers, including clean beaches, tropical resorts, dramatic history, spectacular annual events and much, much more.

Walking through the long narrow hall of The Balinese you can feel the history. Old wooden floors creak under foot, the smell of the salty, humid air creeps in from the open doors and windows, the sounds of the waves crashing on the beach, people laughing, the band playing, all come together like the tide, sweeping over you and pulling you in.

The East End and Silk Stocking historic districts are a treasure-trove for architecture buffs, while the blocks along The Strand, once known as the Wall Street of the Southwest, offer interesting shops, restaurants and art galleries. Kids will enjoy visiting an offshore oil rig, venturing into a tropical rain forest at Moody Gardens, or exploring the Texas Seaport Museum.
